The first INDIA EMPIRE NRI Awards were held on January 10, 2010 at Hotel Ramada Plaza in New Delhi. Prominent NRIs from all over the world attended. In all 16 Overseas Indians from 11 nations were honoured by the magazine. The awards were presented by Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi. Chief Minister of Delhi Sheila Dikshit was present too. You will find details on the awards, and the pictures as well as a film of the Awards Night on our website www.indiaempire.com

We have also announced that the next INDIA EMPIRE NRI Awards will be held on January 10, 2011. Our nomination is now open online for next year on the awards website at www.indiaempire.com. Several of those awarded in 2010 had filled in their nominations online. We are glad to tell you that the awards received wide coverage overseas and have generated considerable interest. The profile of the Awardees, about whom you’ll read in this issue, was kept high and, therefore, greatly appreciated.

In this issue we are carrying an interview with the Deputy Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago (also one of the Awardees on January 10), Lenny Saith. Just a day before he received our Award, he also received the prestigious Pravasi Samman Award from the President of India at the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD).

We have a report on the PBD 2010. We also bring in stories on the Indian diaspora from different parts of the world, and news from India which would be of relevance to the Overseas Indian Community.
