Umesh Chandra is the president GOPIO’s Queensland Chapter. His leadership qualities were clear to all after he successfully organised the inaugural GOPIO Asia Pacific conference, with delegates attending from Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Singapore, Malaysia, South Africa, India and of course Australia.
Mr Chandra holds several important posts. He is vice-president of the Queensland Multicultural Council. He is also secretary general of the Federation of Indian Communities of Queensland, the apex body of major Indian associations in Queensland.
Mr Chandra has been involved in community affairs from the very beginning. He is past president, as well as founding and life member of the Hindu Society of Queensland. He publishes Queensland’s first full colour Indian community newspaper Brisbane Indian Times.
Mr Chandra will be attending Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas NRI/PIO conference in Chennai in January 2009.
