Tourism Development Incentives
The Tourism Development Act, 2000 (TDA) was introduced to support the development of tourism in Trinidad and Tobago. The Act provides for benefits to be granted to various types of tourism sector. These benefits administered by TDC are as follows:
· Tax exemptions (not exceeding seven (7) years) in respect of gains or profits from the approved tourism project.
· Tax exemption in respect of gains or profits from the initial sale of villas or condominiums or the sites for villas or condominiums, which form part of an Integrated Resort Development.
· An accelerated depreciation of depreciable equipment used in an approved tourism project.
· A capital allowance in respect of approved capital expenditure incurred in the creation of a new tourism project or in the expansion of existing tourism project.
· A tax exemption on dividends from tax exempt gains or profits paid to non-resident shareholders who are nationals and non-resident shareholders who are not nationals and not liable to tax in respect of those dividends in the country in which they are resident.
