Tulsi Tanti is E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year
Tulsi Tanti, chairman of the country’s leading wind power company, Suzlon Energy, was named Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2006 at an award banquet in Mumbai in December. Tanti, who pipped seven other contenders, will represent India at the Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur of the Year Awards in Monte Carlo, Monaco, next June. Tata Consultancy Services CEO S. Ramadorai was named Manager Entrepreneur of the Year. Vedanta Resources founder and CEO Anil Agarwal was given the Manufacturing category award, Pantaloon Retail Managing Director Kishore Biyani the Services category award, Financial Technologies Managing Director Jignesh Shah the Business Transformation award.

Tata in Forbes top 20 most reputed firms list
Eight Indian business houses have made to the Forbes list of world’s most reputed companies, with the country’s largest corporate conglomerate Tata group sharing space with the top 20 global firms. Tatas, the largest Indian group in terms of revenues and market capitalisation, has been ranked at the 20th position among the most reputed company list of Forbes. Maruti Suzuki, Hero Honda Motors, HLL, ITC, SBI, Infosys and M&M have also managed to find place in the top 200 list. Italian Food and Tobacco major Barilla Holdings has been ranked at the first position, followed by Denmark’s consumer products firm Lego Holdings and German airline Lufthansa at the second and third positions.

Global students feel the IIM magic
It’s not just the India Story, which has caught the fancy of the world. The world is also watching the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) with renewed interest. Over 12 international colleges have flown into Ahmedabad to participate in the Confluence ‘06, which has ‘The India Phenomenon’ as its central theme.
Allison Miller, who has come from the University of Berkeley, California, says they have been reading about the Indian economy in newspapers and they discuss it in college. “India is one of the emerging superpowers. In the past few years, India has become more visible across the globe.”
She says apart from companies, the institutes in India too are making news abroad. “Institutes in India are well-known. IIM-Ahmedabad is one of the best in Asia and that’s why we are here.”
