Odisha, a state with a rich history, has often fallen behind when it comes to keeping pace with India’s rapid economic growth. It is, therefore, hugely refreshing to see the success of Dr Achyuta Samanta, an educational entrepreneur. He has not just built a world class university called KIIT which was the venue of the 99th Indian Science Congress held in January 2012, he also wants to uplift the enormously impoverished tribal sections in Odisha. The change he has brought about through the institution called KISS is a miracle, and Odisha and entire India and its diaspora can be proud of his world class projects. Several luminaries, including Nobel laureates have been fascinated and awed by his pet projects, KIIT and KISS.
Special Correspondent Anjay Sinha travelled to Bhubaneshwar and spent time at the KIIT and KISS campuses. His first-person piece lets you peep into the fascinating and life-altering world of Dr Samanta, as well as the philosophical base on which he has built his educational empire.
We have several interviews with business and political leaders, an account on India by a Know India Programme student of Indian origin from Sri Lanka, and the increasing reach of the book on Global Indians by India Empire Publications. There are also excerpts from a recent colloquium on the Indian Diaspora held in Reunion Island, France. All this apart from our sections on the Indian Diaspora, real estate and books.
