TAKE A PIZZA AND CALL ME IN THE MORNING
In a recent study published in the journal Diabetes Technology and
Therapeutics, individuals with type 1 diabetes (the form of diabetes
that generally develops early in life and necessitates the use of
insulin) were fed with pizza and then administered one of three
insulin treatments of different duration of action. The most effective
blood-sugar control was found when individuals were given the longest-acting
insulin therapy (designed to last eight hours). The study suggests
pizza can exert blood-sugar disrupting effects for a long time,
and provides yet more evidence that starch-based foods can cause
considerable blood-sugar instability. Better foods for diabetics
include those that are less disruptive to blood-sugar levels such
as meat, fish, eggs, nuts, seeds, green vegetables, beans and lentils.
EASTERN DELIGHTS
KOLKATA: Sanjib Poddar has brought a new buzz to south Calcutta’s
outing options. His place, Avenue 84, located on Rashbehari Avenue,
is being hit by the hip set for its multi-cuisine restaurant, modern

go to other parts of the city for a decent eatery. So I thought
opening a restaurant here would be a good idea,” said Poddar.
The 90-cover restaurant serves Indian and Chinese cuisine. The menu
is a good mix of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. The Indian
section includes Paneer Irani, Dahi Kebab, Babri Aloo, Chicken Reshmi,
