Doc gets top billing
Indian-American physician Dr Sampat Shivangi, who practises in Jackson, Mississippi, has been nominated the advisor to the US secretary of health and human services, Michael O Levin.
The health secretary has also asked him to serve on the National Advisory
Council for a term beginning immediately. Levin expressed the hope that he would
give the benefit of his valued counsel in the coming years. Thanking Levin,
Shivangi said he would utilise this opportunity to work for the underprivileged.

Canadian South Asian to have a blast
Music, dance, film and theatre will be the highlights of an upcoming festival to celebrate the success of South Asians in Canada. The festival,
Masala! Mehndi! Masti! (M!M!M!), will be held from August 3 to 7, reports the South Asian Observer.
The festival will be inaugurated at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce
(CIBC) Stage with the screening of Bride and Prejudice, Gurinder
Chadha, the film's director, will be present on the occasion. There will also be a concert by Brit
invASIAN, featuring a performance by Britain-based Rhythm, Dhol and Bass
(RDB).
