The second conference on Global Gujarat and its Diaspora was held by the UGC Area Study Centre for Indian Diaspora and Cultural Studies, Hemchandracharya, North Gujarat University at Patan in January. Present on the occasion were a large number of Gujarati diaspora members, many of them highly successful businessmen, distinguished scholars, academicians, scientists, NRIs who have returned to Gujarat after spending decades outside India, bureaucrats and politicians from relevant departments in New Delhi and Gandhinagar, and the diaspora Media

The conference was coordinated with a great deal of flair and agility by the Director at the UGC study centre, Adesh Pal. In fact, year after year, the entire Pal family goes out of its way to ensure that the people at the conference return home with a feeling of great satisfaction. Prominent among those who attended this year included the joint secretaries at the Ministries of External Affairs and Overseas Indian Affairs, Malay Mishra and D N Srivastava, the former secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs J.C.Sharma who also was member secretary of the high level committee on the Indian diaspora, C K Patel, president of the National Federation of Indian American Associations (NFIA), Nitin Shah, the founder and former chairman of the Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA), US based space scientist Kamlesh Lulla, the Editor and Publisher of the Gujarat Samachar in UK, C B Patel, diaspora specialist and chancellor of the East West University in Netherland, M.K. Gautam, among others..
