A two day conference was organized at Brussels in November by the newly set up Europe India Chamber of Commerce. It was
attended by 282 industrialists, a clutch of Indian dignitaries, including Minister of Commerce Kamal Nath, ICCR Chairman Karan Singh, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and several members of the European Parliament. The meeting was coordinated by EICC chairman Nirj Deva and Sunil Prasad, secretary general of the chamber. Other important organizations that associated with the EICC for the meet were GOPIO, ASSOCHAM and the Indian Merchants’ Chamber.
Several recommendations followed. Here are a few:
- The EICC must become a platform for profitable interaction between the European and Indian business communities to enhance trade and commerce in their respective countries.
- The EICC should establish better working relationship with various industrial associations in Europe and India, including such eminent organizations like CII, FICCI, IMC and
ASSOCHAM.
- The India Festival with BOZAR in Brussels, the biggest art and cultural show of India outside India, has been a success and India should consider organizing this type of event in key countries of the world.
- The atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir is congenial for investment and the economy is looking up. The state has been enjoying a travel boom since the peace process between India and Pakistan began two years ago.
