Kamal Blooms...

Bollywood Awards was born and became a reality. People such as Shah Rukh Khan and Michael Jackson showed up at the inaugural event. Michael even wore a kurta to the event and walked into the hearts of many Indians. There was no turning back. Dandona realised that the Bollywood Awards held in Atlantic City would bring a taste of India to the diaspora as well as the knowledge of its heritage, culture and traditions to the Americans. NRIs applauded his efforts and energy. "We broadcast the event worldwide and CNN gave us 11 minutes of coverage, which was more than the Prime Minister of India got for the whole year," says Dandona.

Bollywood Awards has just completed its sixth annual show. It is considered by many to be the Indian Oscars. It brings the Indian movie industry into the Hollywood setting. Hollywood has been extremely supportive. Sharon Stone, Tyra Banks, Steven Seagal, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Richard Gere to name only a few, have been present either on stage or in the audience. Virtually everyone in the Indian film, music, and fashion industry has flown down for one of the Bollywood movie, music, and fashion awards.

This past year Rani Mukerjee, Arjun Rampal, Fardeen Khan, Lara Dutta, Aftab Shivdasani and Boomika Chawla performed at the awards. He managed a coup of sorts when Senator Hillary R. Clinton gave a welcome speech via satellite at the awards presentation.

With the success of the Bollywood and music awards, Dandona gave birth to another awards programme - the Fashion Awards. This time though, it was his daughter Sonia who ran the show. She was just 18 when she co-hosted the event with superstars Steven Seagal, Nikki Hilton and Jerry Hall.
