Select The Country:
PORTUGAL
MARCH 2019
"Portugal and India have been trading partners with strong historical links for over 500 years. Recently, Indians have been showing an increasing interest in discovering Portugal as a tourism destination, with its rich heritage and cultural offer that appeals to Indian tourists. In the last 6 years, Indian tourism to Portugal has tripled, and this trend is expected to continue as our countries develop further cooperation in various fields. In fact, Portugal is the only European country ever to have an Indian descendent Prime Minister, which says much about our multicultural and welcoming society. In 2018, Portugal was elected for the second time in a row, the World's Leading Destination at the World Travel Awards."

Before coming to India I met different groups that form the Indian community in Portugal. Even if they still keep alive their roots and identities very much, they represent a success in terms of integration. They are now a very active and entrepreneurial segment of the Portuguese society. I hope they can be instrumental in strengthening the relations between Portugal and India.
