SEPTEMBER 2024

Mr. Pabitra Margherita, Minister of External Affairs and Textiles, distinguished parliamentarians, authorities, fellow citizens, and friends of India,

Namaste

It is an honour to address you on this special occasion as we celebrate the 215th anniversary of Ecuador’s independence and the 55th anniversary of bilateral relations between Ecuador and India. In this moment, we come together to reflect on our shared past, recognize present achievements, and envision an even more promising future for our nations.

I would like to extend my warmest greetings to Mr. Margherita, for his presence here today.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations over half a century ago, Ecuador and India have developed a solid bond based on mutual respect, cooperation, and a shared vision of progress. Despite the geographical distance, our nations have found numerous points of convergence in various fields, fostering our friendship.

One of the fundamental pillars of our relationship is trade and investment. In recent years, we have observed a significant increase in trade between our countries. Ecuador has exported high-quality products to India, such as teak, gold, cocoa, processed food, while India has contributed to our market with motor vehicles, pharmaceuticals, textiles, machinery and information technology, among others. This trade flow has not only benefited our economies but also created jobs and improved the quality of life for our citizens.

Investments have also played a crucial role. Indian companies see Ecuador as an attractive destination in services and are exploring opportunities for sectors such as mining, energy, and infrastructure. Similarly, Ecuadorian companies have explored opportunities in India’s dynamic market, generating an invaluable exchange of knowledge and technology.

Culturally, our nations have enjoyed a valuable exchange that has enriched our societies. India’s diverse traditions, dance, music, and cinema have received a warm reception in Ecuador, while Ecuadorian culture has been appreciated in India. This cultural exchange has fostered greater understanding and appreciation between our people.Today, we will have the opportunity to enjoy a traditional Ecuadorian dance performance.

Education also strengthens our ties. More Ecuadorian students are choosing India for higher education, drawn by the excellence of its universities and rich cultural experiences. Indian entrepreneurs find Ecuador favourable for business and investment, further enhancing our connection.

Ecuador is a land of diverse beauty and wonder, offering visitors a unique blend of natural and cultural attractions. From the majestic Andes Mountains to the lush Amazon Rainforest, and from the vibrant cities to the serene beaches, there is something for everyone. One of our most treasured gems is the Galápagos Islands, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its unparalleled biodiversity and breathtaking landscapes. I invite you to come and discover the extraordinary beauty of Ecuador.

Looking towards the future, I am convinced that the relations between Ecuador and India will continue to grow and diversify. We have enormous potential to explore new areas of cooperation in sectors such as technology, health, sustainable agriculture, and education. I am confident that with the joint efforts of our governments, entrepreneurs, academics, and citizens, we will reach new heights in our bilateral relationship.

On this 55th anniversary, we reaffirm our commitment to continue working together for a future of shared prosperity, mutual respect, and enduring friendship.

Thank you very much.

Speaking about tourism, Ecuador offers countless landscapes to satisfy any desire. It is well known as much for its beaches as for its mountains, snow-capped volcanoes, valleys, rivers, cascades, picturesque towns, the Amazon region with its flora and fauna, the Galapagos Islands with unique environment in the world, etc. Ecuador is also a country with great cultural and historical wealth; you can visit archaeological places such as Ingapirca, Cochasquí, Valdivia, samples of the cultures Cañari, Inca, Quitus, etc.
