Metro train manufacturer Alstom Transport India Ltd ...
Metro train manufacturer Alstom Transport India Ltd in November said it has successfully completed production of its 500th metro car at its factory in SriCity near Chennai. Alstom’s SriCity factory is the group’s largest urban rolling stock manufacturing unit in the Asia-Pacific region with a capacity to build 480 cars per annum. The SriCity facility rolls out train-sets for use in Indian (Chennai, Kochi, Lucknow, Mumbai) metros but also in Sydney and Montreal. After the advent of Covid-19 unlock 1.0 in India, the site successfully dispatched the first batch of two train-sets for the Canadian city of Montreal (Reseau Express Metropolitain), Alstom said.
Presently, the site is manufacturing for Mumbai Metro L3 (Aqua Line), Montreal Metro - Reseau Express Metropolitain and Sydney Metro (City and Southwest extension). “Despite the global pandemic that has disrupted business across industries, our teams continue to work tirelessly, to ensure on-time deliveries to metro corporations who are working on upgrading urban mobility in various cities,” Alstom India and South Asia Managing Director Alain Spohr said. According to him, the local content in the train sets made at SriCity is over 75 per cent for all domestic projects.
