“My relationship with Gurudev is intense and intimate”
Groomed directly by Swami Rama, one of the greatest sages of the Himalayas, Dr Vijay Dhasmana, the Vice Chancellor of the SRHU, oversees daily activities at what is the largest medical campus in the state of Uttarakhand. He speaks to India Empire magazine’s Editor and Publisher Sayantan Chakravarty in an interview from Dehradun
You’ve concerned yourself with the upskilling of youth in Uttarakhand, as well as enhancing their entrepreneurial abilities. Kindly share how you’ve gone about implementing these skillsets…
I am of the opinion that most of the education institutions are continuing to offer traditional programs without taking into account the actual requirement of our society and the financial sustainability of youth. We need to work towards making the youth employable or capable enough to start their own businesses, which can lead to further employment generation.
Our university has taken up the task of grooming the youth of Uttarakhand so that they can start their own small businesses and become independent. We are already working in the areas of agriculture, horticulture and floriculture, yoga science including wellness, and vocational skills in hospitality and culinary sciences. We are also exploring areas to cater to the tourism industry of Uttarakhand.
What is your own vision for SRHU? How do you coalesce it with the mission of the University and the HIHT?
I have had the privilege of having candid, one-on-one discussions with Swamiji. I never shied away from asking him about what he wanted this organization and place to be. Therefore, the vision has already been given to us by Gurudev and we are all collectively working towards its fulfillment with an objective that the students who study here and people who work and stay here develop personally, professionally and spiritually in a holistic manner.
