Introduction
For the last couple of years, we have been planning ...
The people in the book come from different regions in India, have different mother tongues, and represent cultural, social and religious diversity. And all of them share a common identity—Indianness—and a common origin, India-motherland of our forefathers. None of them turned back on their identity and discarded their culture and heritage for the sake of feeling comfortable in a mainstream society. Those who were determined, America let them achieve their dreams.
Los Angeles Indian community book project has been a cooperative effort. The team members patiently and persuasively worked with the achievers to get their story satisfactorily completed by the professional editor. Each profile in the book has been signed off by the individual about whom it is written. The project chair reached out to several people for articles on various aspects of the community. Some invested time to send their articles which were editorially treated and included in the book. The people in the book graciously pre-purchased a few books for their friends and relatives to pay for the publication.
