During the preparation of the Day of Belarusian Written Language, cities hosting the Holiday receive a new impetus in their development. Significant works on repair, reconstruction and restoration of buildings, streets and squares, renovation of housing, commissioning of social and cultural facilities, opening of monuments of architecture and art are carried out. Every year thousands of guests from all over Belarus and abroad gather for the Holiday. Traditionally, the events of the Day of Belarusian Written Language are attended by heads of state administration, diplomatic missions of foreign states. The Festival program includes presentations of iconic publishing projects, performances of Belarusian and foreign writers and poets.

An integral part of the Holiday, in addition to festive events, is the Republican Scientific and Educational Expedition “the Road to the Shrines with the Holy Fire from the Holy Sepulchre”, which involves representatives of the creative and scientific intelligentsia, clergy. At the same time, the expedition passes through the cities and villages of Minsk, Brest and Grodno regions and ends in the capital of the Holiday. On the eve of the Holiday, the international round table with the participation of foreign writers, the final of the Republican contest of young readers “Living classics”, as well as the scientific and practical conference “Slonim readings” devoted to the history of the city-the capital of the Holiday and the district are held annually.
