Since its inception in 2015, ISA has come a long way. Today this inter-governmental organization has 102 signatory countries of which 81 have submitted their instruments of ratification to the Depositary and working towards the global mandate to catalyse global solar growth. The ISA aims to pave the way for future solar generation, storage and technologies for Member countries’ needs by mobilizing over USD 1000 billion by 2030.

COP26 has been a watershed event for the ISA, with ISA positioning itself as a leading action-oriented global institution for promotion of solar-energy based solutions for rapid decarbonisation of global energy mix, climate change mitigation and sustainable development. COP26 saw the (OSOWOG) Initiative – a vision of global import laid down by the Hon’ble Prime Minister H.E. Shri Narendra Modi at the First Assembly of the ISA – joining hands with the Green Grids Initiative (GGI) of the United Kingdom government.

The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India launched the joint GGI –OSOWOG initiative at the World Leaders’ Summit at COP26 in the presence of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Hon’ble President of the United States of America, and leaders from ISA member countries endorsing the ‘One Sun’ declaration, proclaiming their collective commitment to the initiative. The GGI-OSOWOG aims to create a globally inter-connected green grid, building upon existing regional grid infrastructure, that will enable solar energy generation in regions with high potential and evacuation to demand centres. A joint GGI-OSOWOG Secretariat is being planned to be established at the ISA Secretariat to mobilize political support and render technical support for the initiative.
