The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas started by Atal Behari Vajpayee used to be an annual event for diaspora engagement, but today it has been turned into a biennial one. The regional PBDs are all but over. All this ‘disengagement’ is happening on the ground when Prime Minister Narendra Modi has over the years personally interacted with very large numbers of the Indian diaspora from around the world, including at the Madison Square Garden in New York, the Wembley Stadium in London, the Shark Tank at San Jose and Allphones Arena in Sydney, among several others.
