SIKH ASSOCIATION DINNER
The Guest of Honour, Admiral Sir George Zambellas, KCB. DSC. ADC, DL, First Sea Lord and Chief of the Naval Staff of the Royal Navy spoke of the many battles Sikh soldiers have fought shoulder to shoulder with the British armed forces and paid supreme sacrifices for our freedom. In recognition of the valour and contribution of the Sikhs, two Second World War destroyers had been named HMS Sikh and HMS Punjabi. He added that the Royal Navy is made up of 26 different religious groups who take up arms to defend and not to conquer, helping maritime trade flow more smoothly and had to helped Britain make a trade led recovery out of recession.
