Mauritius

Next Call, Mauritius

Situated 1,200 miles off the coast of Africa in the middle of the Indian Ocean, this dream island seems like a tropical garden arising out from the horizon. The beauty of Mauritius is beyond words. Replete with lush forest, wild waterfalls, unique wildlife, moonscaped mountains and palm-fringed beaches, Mauritius is the archetypical dream destination for tourists and perfect for an idyllic holiday. The friendliness of Mauritius’s multi-cultural population is also a valuable tourist resource. These are the reasons because of which tourism in Mauritius thrives so much.

This beautiful island also offers a wide variety of leisure pursuits for the more active, based around the stunning coastline and crystal-clear waters, including deep-sea fishing, scuba diving, para-sailing, going under water in submarines and water skiing.

The holiday experience in Mauritius is perfectly complemented by its delicious cuisine and the traditional music and dance form- Sega whose rhythmic beats sets the mood for the evening. Mauritius also has a throbbing nightlife in the form of casinos and discotheques.

Mauritius has a total square area of 1,860 km with a population of just over 1.2 million people. It has an interesting mix of Indo-Mauritians, Créole, Sino-Mauritians and Franco-Mauritians. A number of languages are spoken here. Among the major tourist attractions are:

Port Louis: The Port Louis Market near the Watefront is an ideal place to get a sense of the city. And the lovely harbour will beckon again and again.

Mahebourg: There is no other place in Mauritius where the past has left as deep a mark as on this town. The Naval Museum is a must see.

Grand Baie: The Mauritian Cote d’ Azur, this is the place for exquisite dinners and parties that carry on late into the night.

Pamplemousse Gardens: Well worth a visit for a view of the giant water lilies from the Amazon.

Mauritius is striking since it once was a volcano. As an icing on the wondrous landscape, a coral reef surrounds the islands. And of course the sunny beaches will take your breath away.
