“Zambia has stood with India on a number of issues”

H.E. Mrs Judith Kan’goma Kapijimpanga, High Commissioner of the Republic of Zambia in India responded to India Empire Magazine on a range of issues...

Zambia has supported India on important issues over the years. Kindly elaborate on them…

Zambia has stood with India on a number of issues. Among them is condemning terrorist attacks on India soil like was the case in the Mumbai attacks. Zambia also believes that India deserves a permanent seat at the UN going by its geographical size, population, and influence in the world politics. Its economic collaboration up swing with Africa has become a picturesque and must not be ignored.

How far has the relationship between our two nations evolved economically?

Economically, the relationship between the two nations has evolved from Zambia being a recipient to being a trade partner although our exports to India are still low compared to imports. India’s exports to Zambia stood at $475.4 million while Zambia’s exports to India stood at $ 178 million.

Is there a new momentum in business and investment?

There has been a renewed investment momentum in business and investment between Zambia and India. Zambia’s exports to India have increased so has Indian investment in Zambia. Indian investment in Zambia currently stands at $ 5 billion while Zambian companies are yet to invest in India. Health, tourism and education are among the new businesses that have acquired great momentum in the recent past where Zambian and Indian companies are collaborating.
